PDM Endorses Katherine Clark for the 32nd Middlesex District (Melrose and Wakefield).

The special primary election will be held on February 5th, the date of the presidential primary. For those of you already following this race, we invite you to join our colleagues in Mass Alliance for phone banks to make voter ID calls for the campaign on Thursday January 24th and Tuesday January 29th from 6 pm to 8:30 at 150 Mt Vernon Street near the JFK T stop in Dorchester (1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East office). Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts has endorsed Katherine Clark in the Democratic Primary on Tuesday, February 5, which will choose a Democrat to run for State Representative in the 32nd Middlesex District in the March Special Election. The 32nd includes Melrose and Wakefield; the seat was formerly held by Mike Festa, who resigned to become Secretary of Elder Affairs and has endorsed Katherine in the primary.

Katherine is a lawyer with a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School. She is a committed progressive who was one of the PDM Half-Dozen", legislative candidates we supported in 2004 when she ran for a state senate seat. She is raising three sons with her husband, Rodney, in Melrose, where she has been a member of the School Committee for six, years. As General Counsel for the Massachusetts Office of Child Care Services, she oversaw civil prosecutions of child care providers and managed the legal department.

Katherine has been endorsed by Mass Alliance, the coalition of progressive organizations to which we belong; by NOW and NARAL; by Clean Water Action; by most of the progressive unions in the Commonwealth; and by Attorney General Martha Coakley, for whom Katherine was most recently Chief of the Policy & Government Relations Division in the Attorney General’s office, working on a host of legislative matters including consumer protection, environmental, and criminal justice issues.
